Overview

Provides network and operator level support for training systems. Setup, monitor, and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other networking systems. Install routers, switches, firewalls and network-related software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews the network requirements of the training event and sets up the systems accordingly.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and provides resolution for network, Windows PC / Server hardware and software related issues.
  • Performs hardware and software installation/upgrades.
  • Maintains operating records.
  • Processes scheduled routines that present few difficult operating problems (e.g., infrequent or easily resolved error conditions).
  • Diagnoses and acts on machine stoppage and error conditions not fully covered by existing procedures and guidelines (e.g., resetting switches and other controls or making mechanical adjustments to maintain or restore equipment operations).
  • Adapts to a variety of nonstandard problems that require extensive operator intervention (e.g. frequent introduction of new programs, applications, or procedures).
  • In response to computer output instructions or error conditions, the Network/Computer Support Specialist chooses or devises a course of action from among several alternatives and alters or deviates from standard procedures if standard procedures do not provide a solution (e.g. reassigning equipment in order to work around faulty equipment or transfer channels); then refers problems if necessary.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working as a network administrator or technician.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, networking or any other related field. Two years of related work experience may be substituted for each year of degree-level education.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license, and be insurable by the company's insurance carrier
  • Professional networking certifications – CCNA, CCNP, CCIE CWNA, N+
  • Ability to work with an engineering team comprised of varied disciplines.
  • Understanding of systems security.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols and concepts (VPN, Routing, Ports, TCP/IP, Network analysis tools).
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be exceedingly well organized, flexible.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform diverse duties under operating and deadline constraints.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Flexibility in scheduling work hours and available for occasional travel.
  • May be required to work extended workdays frequently.

Supervisory

Supervises and mentors site personnel.

Physical Demands

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for handling, to work with such hand tools as wrenches, screwdrivers, wire cutters, pliers, and soldering irons. Seeing up close. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a maintenance facility as well as outdoors in military training areas. Work is often performed outdoors, in adverse conditions including inclement weather such as high humidity, heat, cold, high wind, rain, and various local conditions. Our mission is to train US Marines; therefore, we work side by side with them in all climates and conditions.

Employee often exposed to sharp objects and may be exposed to some heat, loud noise, chemicals, lead and vibration. Katmai strictly adheres to the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHA) regulations. Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week.  May be required to work longer hours as needed to complete assignment or project.  May require flexible work schedule.
