Overview

The DS/GS applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex maintenance troubleshooting and repair problems that typically cannot be solved by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Typical troubleshooting and repair are above the Operator echelon of maintenance and are frequently at the Direct and General Support echelons of maintenance.  Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, troubleshooting wiring/cabling faults, repair of fiber-optic cabling, radio troubleshooting and repair,  assisting with After Action Review (AAR) system fault isolation and repair, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering; changes. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, current types of equipment used on the Fort Hood ranges, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. This position may advise the Complex Leader and provide technical guidance to lower level Range Leaders and Range Specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex maintenance and troubleshooting problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, troubleshooting wiring/cabling faults, repair of fiber-optic cabling, radio troubleshooting and repair, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.
  • Familiarity with various computer operating systems and software used by the range computers (TRACR Software).
  • Assists the IT Tech with troubleshooting point to point systems and install mac addresses in tower systems.
  • Requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow.
  • Uses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment
  • Must have a valid Driver's license, proof of insurance and acceptable driving record and reliable transportation to and from work

Qualifications

Experience Requirements

 

  • Seven (7) Years demonstrated experience
  • Familiar with various target lifting devices and systems found on Fort Hood Ranges.
  • Formal Technical training as an Electronics Technician (Military Specialist Training or Civilian Equivalent)
  • Instruction experience

Education Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year Electronics Technician program at an accredited technical institute or have completed factory/formal training on training devices/equipment listed in the contract.

Special Skills

 

  • Demonstrate competence through satisfactory progressive performance as an Electronics Technician or other technical field working with electronic equipment.

Physical Demands

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for handling, to work with such hand tools as wrenches, screwdrivers, wire cutters, pliers, and soldering irons. Seeing up close. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment

Work is performed in both a maintenance facility/light manufacturing setting and outdoors. Employee often exposed to sharp objects and may be exposed to some heat, loud noise, chemicals and vibration. Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week. May be required to work overtime hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
