ICE Technical Services, a division of Katmai Government Services, currently has an opening for the position of Mechanical Engineering Contractor.  This is an on call casual position with the potential to move to a full time permanent position.


This position serves as a Mechanical Engineer for ICE Technical Services, a division of Katmai Government Services.  The incumbent performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments and plans the implementation of projects/programs under limited direction.


  • Applies experience and advanced knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to accomplish assignments and to develop plans and techniques to improve programs and policies.
  • Allocates resources to accomplish small work activities within established schedules. Management of one or several projects, such as HVAC, Boilers, Chillers and piping, and the responsibility for planning, developing, and overseeing projects to establish and improve facilities/systems.
  • Covers a wide range of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and environmental conditioning systems for buildings of many sizes; various types of fire protection equipment, building plumbing and piping systems, corrosion control and water treatment techniques.
  • Develops and works with construction contract documents; i.e., drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Ensures that assigned projects comply with applicable code and standards, including Government Orders and directives and is required to interact with personnel from other sections, field offices, private sector contractors, and other local and Federal agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET Accredited School.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation will be required.
  • Advanced knowledge of FAA and DOT policies and procedures is not essential, but would be a plus.
  • Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959

Special Skills

  • You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
  • Experience reviewing and commenting on airport project engineering design drawings and specifications, including construction safety phasing plans;
  • Experience in identifying and resolving complex airport engineering problems/issues;
  • Experience in making recommendations on airport improvements; and Experience conveying technical airport engineering information to a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of airport design, construction standards and methods (preferred)
  • Knowledge of FAA and DOT policies and procedures is a plus.


To qualify for this position, you must also have successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must:

  1. be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; OR
  2. include differential and integral calculus and courses in 5 of the following 7 areas of engineering science or physics:

                        a) statics, dynamics;
                        b) strength of materials;
                        c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics;
                        d) thermodynamics;
                        e) electrical fields and circuits;
                        f) nature and properties of materials; and
                        g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics; OR
                        h) a combination of education and experience that furnished:

(1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and

(2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering, demonstrated by one of the following: Current registration as a professional engineer; OR evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training examination (EIT); OR successful completion of 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements; OR successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or appropriate professional field, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

Physical Demands

Position consists of standing for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing and seeing up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception and the ability to focus; occasional walking or standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.  Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage. May be assigned occasional to moderate periods of analytical tasks requiring extensive reasoning abilities. Work Environment

Work is performed at job site construction locations during project transitioning with a wide variety of people in different functions, personalities and abilities.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week.  May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
